Letter from the THS President, Dr. Jonathan B. Lundy, MD, FACS
On behalf of the founders and Board of Directors of the Texas Hand Society, I would like to introduce our growing organization to anyone who is interested in improving hand care for all people in the great State of Texas.
The idea of the Texas Hand Society developed after entering private practice in Austin Texas in 2023, shortly after retiring from 21 years of active duty service in the US Army. I noticed issues related to timely access to emergency hand care that I felt could be improved through collaboration with other hand surgeons from across the state. In discussing these issues with my colleagues, it became clear that there was a collective desire to join our efforts to make changes and positively impact our patients.
The principles of the Texas Hand Society are service and fellowship. We believe that with these guiding principles at the forefront of our efforts, we can positively impact hand care delivery and build a network of hand surgeons and other hand care professionals across Texas. Ultimately, the goals of the Texas Hand Society are to build relationships, advance the interests of hand surgeons, and improve care.
Some of our current activities that are in progress include:
- Preparing for our inaugural annual meeting in Austin - date to be announced soon
- A group chat to discuss issues affecting hand surgeons and their patients as they occur in real time
- Partnering with the political action arms of our parent organizations to work towards policy changes that affect hand surgeons and their patients
- Developing an outreach program to improve access to hand care for underserved Texans such as Texas Hand Days in cities across the state
- Continuing medical education conferences held via video sharing platforms
- Improving access to care by connecting surgeons and hospital leadership in communities struggling to provide emergency hand care
If you are interested in what the Texas Hand Society can offer to you and your patients, we encourage you to explore membership opportunities or simply fill out the membership application and become a member. If I can be of service to you or a patient in need of hand care, or if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out via email.

The Benefits of Membership
Annual membership in the Texas Hand Society (THS) offers invaluable benefits for hand surgeons and other hand care professionals across the state. By joining, members become part of the growing community in the THS working towards our common goals of helping all people in need of hand care and advancing the interests of those involved in that care. The THS fosters collaboration among hand surgeons, emergency medical provider, advanced practice providers, hand therapists, and other clinicians, enhancing communication and breaking down silos within the healthcare system. Through these connections, members can share best practices, address real-time issues as they occur, and contribute to improving patient care while strengthening the hand care community across Texas.
