Letter from the THS President, Dr. William Pientka, MD

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

As President of the Texas Hand Society, I am honored to share with you the ongoing efforts and vision of our organization as we work to support and advance the practice of hand surgery across our great state.

Our mission is rooted in three fundamental commitments: enhancing the quality of patient care, promoting excellence in surgical practice, and fostering a strong, collaborative professional community. Over the past year, we have built on these priorities through a range of impactful initiatives.

First and foremost, we remain dedicated to improving outcomes for patients. By encouraging the adoption of evidence-based techniques, supporting clinical research, and facilitating the exchange of knowledge among our members, we strive to ensure that patients throughout Texas receive the highest standard of care. Our society actively promotes best practices that enhance safety, efficiency, and long-term functional outcomes.

Equally important is our role in supporting the professional development of hand surgeons at every stage of their careers. Through our annual meeting, virtual workshops, and continuing medical education programs, we provide valuable opportunities for learning, mentorship, and skill advancement. These efforts are designed not only to refine surgical expertise but also to keep our members at the forefront of innovation in this rapidly evolving field.

Collaboration lies at the heart of everything we do. The Texas Hand Society brings together a diverse group of surgeons, therapists, researchers, and allied health professionals who share a common passion for improving hand care. By creating an environment that encourages open dialogue, interdisciplinary cooperation, and mutual support, we strengthen both our individual practices and our collective impact.

We are also committed to advocacy—working to represent the interests of our members and their patients at the state level. Whether addressing healthcare policy, access to care, or professional standards, we aim to be a strong and effective voice for the hand surgery community in Texas.

As we look to the future, we remain focused on expanding our educational offerings, increasing member engagement, and continuing to elevate the standard of hand care across the state. None of this would be possible without the dedication and passion of our members, whose contributions drive our mission forward every day.

Thank you for your continued support and commitment to excellence. Together, we will continue to advance the field of hand surgery and improve the lives of the patients we serve.

Sincerely,
Bill Pientka, MD
President, Texas Hand Society

The Benefits of Membership

Annual membership in the Texas Hand Society (THS) offers invaluable benefits for hand surgeons and other hand care professionals across the state. By joining, members become part of the growing community in the THS working towards our common goals of helping all people in need of hand care and advancing the interests of those involved in that care. The THS fosters collaboration among hand surgeons, emergency medical provider, advanced practice providers, hand therapists, and other clinicians, enhancing communication and breaking down silos within the healthcare system. Through these connections, members can share best practices, address real-time issues as they occur, and contribute to improving patient care while strengthening the hand care community across Texas.
